Corrupt Spirit Corrupt Body – Werewolves of Ithia.
Werewolves and other cursed shapeshifters have various forms based on the source of their curse. Each kind has its own strengths, abilities, and vulnerabilities, depending on what powers it. Oathbreakers are generally vulnerable to fire.
Oathbreakers are a form of cursed shapeshifter that performs a binding oath in Vutha’s name. Generally, it takes a simple ritual to bind, but Vutha can be vindictive to those who abuse his name as a seal of security. Oathbreakers are not inherently evil, but the reasons for their oath-breaking are magnified when shifted. There are several forms of Oathbreakers, with the form dependent on the reason the Oath was broken. The curse is passed down through generations, but those born into it have full control of their beast form, with no failings that could corrupt it, though they can taint their form through moral failings.
-The Most Common form of Oathbreaker is the Wolf, which is formed not by moral failings but by failure. Wolves had every intention of fulfilling their oaths and the ability to do so but were thwarted in some way. The Wolves are fairly noble, serving Vutha with no real moral corruption. Lions failed due to pride and are highly territorial and controlling.
-Rats had no intention of fulfilling their oath and are the most common Oathbreakers formed by spite are devious, selfish, and bind together into gangs that attempt to serve their own wills but are often dominated by Lions and used as expendable servants.
-Bears fail their oaths by falling to sloth or their motivation being run down. Walking bulwarks of hulking bone and muscle covered in loose skin with thick fur.
-Tigers fell to greed, distracted from their oaths by sudden opportunity. They are sleek, deadly, and vicious, enjoying the collection of things they found interesting or important before they were afflicted.
-Boars were led astray by rage and are the most hostile of the Oathbreakers, driven by unbridled rage at everything. They are difficult to kill, relentless, and often will risk death to kill and destroy things that upset them. They have the least emotional control.
Folamh Wolf: The Folamh Wolves are the classic terrifying werewolves that devour, rend, and terrorize those around them. Driven by a curse from Eldrag and are always hungry. If all their hunger grows too great, they warp into a great hulking beast two to three times bigger than an Oathbreaker Werewolf, vulnerable to silver, wolfsbane, and deeply afraid of fire; they lumber silently through woods and city streets, devouring anything organic they can find to fill the empty void of their stomach. Their rampages end only when the Light of Siger washes over the land. Folamh, when shifted, are incredibly strong and durable, regenerate from most wounds within minutes, and can digest any organic material and neutralize the poisons and toxins they consume. Folamh can grow nearly indefinitely, depending on how much food they have access to, too. Their stomachs can stretch to stuff ever more food into the emptiness.
Jager Wolf: Jager Wolves are creatures of Tal’Zakra, a curse willingly taken to indulge in the thrill of the hunt. Jager Wolves can change their forms when one or both remaining moons are full. Jager Wolves are the least dangerous, driven by the thrill of the hunt rather than a need to satisfy hunger. To merely kill is seen as easy and for the weak, but to catch the prey without harming them is a sign of a true Jager Wolf. They are roughly the same size as an Oathbreaker Werewolf and are characterized by shorter snouts and adjustable joints that allow them to shift between quadruped and bipedal stances.
Madra Fhiain: Those who have earned the attention of the Nature Fae and have been granted the opportunity of favor in service. When the Fairy Hunts come, the Madra Fhiain turn into large hounds as big as wolves, with thick, shaggy black fur, red eyes, and thorny briars twisting from their fur. They act as scouts sniffing out proper prey for the Rowan King of the Hunt. When the night of a hunt ends, they are restored to their former state and are one of the few means of resurrection on Ithia.
