Gods of Ithia Full: Kaxis the Final Mercy.

True Name: Kaxis

Persona Name: Kaxis

Other Personas: –

Greater Power of the Reaping and Death.

Excerpt: ‘In the silence, Mister Aberdean lay on his deathbed. Alone, his son had left to fetch more medicine for the pain. The old man had looked up to see the desiccated corpse bound in bandages that was Kaxis. The Reaper stood above him with a scythe of whispers lying against one shoulder. Black eyes stared down upon him, and then he held out a hand, and a colorful butterfly landed upon it, turning into an old hourglass.

The Reaper seemed to consider things as the last few grains fell, and with care turned it sideways. Calmly sitting down, he took to sharpening his blade upon a beam of sunlight that flowed through a hole in the curtains. Aberdean heard the voice; it rustled and carried itself like the rustling of wind.

“How heavy is thy heart? I give you time to unburden thyself. To reflect. To say your final goodbye. No one should die all alone, even if so many do.”

Kaxis waited until the son returned, until a final tearful goodbye, and in the arms of his son, Kaxis fixed his timer and with a swipe of his scythe gave the man his final mercy.’ -A memory of the soul of Mister Aberdean.

Known across the plane as Kaxis, The Unspoken, The Lord of Ferries, The Reaper, The Final Mercy, The Silence, The End, and The Bow.

Holy Book: The Buch der Kronen, The Book of Crowns, The Tosk og Hal, Gambri nuk Kunn, The Immortal Scriptures, The Book of First Flame, and The Book of Scales.

A member of the Gods of the Dead.

Kaxis’ holy symbol is the Harvest – A Scythe crossed over a bale of wheat.

When active on Ithia, truly active not as merely the Reaper but as a God, the sky turns pitch black, and no other celestial body is visible. The only star that has been capable of breaching this darkness is the Scarlet Star. While active, the world below is lit by a strange abyssal dark light that makes the unseen visible.

Kaxis’ Divine realm is Wrecca, where the more vicious, evil, and contemptible souls dwell in death. Though those with divine favor will probably end in Vigil. Kaxis watches over the souls of the damned and helps them seek atonement, an understanding of the pain they’ve caused, and, eventually, redemption in Cistern.

Kaxis’ sole artifact of power is Dreil. It is a shimmer, not bound by what even a god can truly comprehend. Only those so close to death that there is no salvation can perceive this scythe-like weapon. It is the tool in which Kaxis separates the soul from the body.

Kaxis has no trinkets among the mortals.

Kaxis views black roses and opossums as sacred.

Kaxis is a corpselike, half-mummified humanoid covered in layers of tattered shrouds, bandages, and chains. All that binds us to the mortal world are chains binding him. Two pinpoints of nearly white, blue light shine out from his layers of burial shrouds. When in full divine form and not merely performing his task as reaper, he appears veiled in water, fire, and stone; in earth and darkness, where all that is dead finds rest. Only those close to death can see him.

Kaxis is calm and quiet, wishing only to be left to his duties. When not busy, he spends time with his sister, Marlis, or Avenus. Kaxis can be merciful, delaying his duty for those final vital seconds to finish something heroic or say a final goodbye. Kaxis is never malicious, never cruel; he is dutiful, shedding the souls from their mortal shells. He is the end of all things, be they mortals, outsiders, or gods; all that enters Ithia, save the Fae, will eventually meet him in the end.

Kaxis does not grant divine power nor encourage followers. He is a function, not one to idolize but mournfully accept.

Kaxis happens every day and does not hold any above another.

Kaxis actively discourages worshiping him. However, some people, such as gravediggers, morticians, and others in fields of death, sometimes make small shrines for him.

Kaxis has burial rites across the mortal peoples. He gave them secrets to protect their bodies and their souls in different climates and terrains.

Sacrifice is antithetical to Kaxis’ personal beliefs. Kaxis abhors the idea that people would worship death; he hopes them to live their lives to the fullest and accept him when they finally meet. Many cultures have come to burn incense and leave out food and drink, besides those who have fought against death for a long time.
