Dollidoos of the Dead Age.
The Dollidoo is a large flightless bird, cousin of the humble pigeon and dodo bird. The Dollidoo has clawed proto-hands built into their wings, like bats, with opposable thumb claws. They sport a long, sharp beak like a pick that can split stone. Males are easily marked by a raised crest like a mohawk down the middle of their heads, while females have three colorful plumes that rise from their heads and droop in front of their heads. Their feet are webbed, and the Dollidoo is highly buoyant. Extensive study shows that Dollidoos are not native to Ithia but possibly evolved from Concepts. Dollidoos seem highly adaptable to fit their need to mimic things. They maintain a symbiotic relationship with a bacterium that, when exposed to air, unleashes a smell similar to sulfur to deter predators.
-The Common Dollidoo has soft, downy green and brown feathers and stands roughly three feet tall. These birds have long, sharp beaks designed to break open the natural prey of the Dollidoo, the clever coconut. These doodles are commonplace, being used as a cheap, expendable workforce for simple labor, a food source, and able to perform basic admin. They can be found in cities, forests, plains, and even across inside planes.
-The Greater Northern Dollidoo has been driven to near extinction due to toxic waste exposure in their habitat. They are marked by white and green feathers, are fluffier, and stand five feet tall, making them close to twice the size of a common doodle. Males have their crests in bright red to attract mates; females tend to have much thicker feathering on their stomachs and rears to help keep eggs insulated and warm. They are marked as an endangered species, and the few known specimens that survive exist in zoos and menageries of private citizens.
-The Magidoos are small, bright blue, and stand around eight inches tall. Males are marked with large tail feathers tipped in solid black, while females have intricate eye designs on their wings to scare off egg predators. Magidoos are highly rare; many died off when the gods died, losing much of their magical diets.
-The Long Beaks are tall, selectively bred Dollidoos. Descendants of the great Sull the Bold and are bred for size, strength, beak length, and aggression. They have black and green feathers, stand six feet tall, and sport long beaks with serrated edges ending in a spear-like point. They have more advanced claws, and they can unleash vocalizations outside of human hearing, allowing them to silently communicate to the senses of most humanoids. They serve the Astarte as birds of war, attacking supply lines, exposed camps, and terrorizing civilian populations. Sometimes unleashed into the flanks of enemy forces, they can spread overwhelming terror among undisciplined troops and can shatter civilian resistance forces with their powerful senses of smell, keen minds, and swift speed.
-The Axe Beak are a large, domesticated breed of Dragidoo, smaller than the wild ones. The Axe Beak are creatures of wrath and fury but… containable and mostly controllable. These birds are bred for war acting as organic tanks with saddles equipped with squads of soldiers, machineguns, light artillery and anti-tank guns, and mortars. The Axe Beak stands twelve feet tall, able to channel its draconic element as a deadly breath weapon, and sporting heavy armored scales across its belly and lower body. Sporting thick, heavy beaks with overlapping spike-like tips and serrated edges, a row of sharp teeth forms a second layer of shredding on the insides of their mouths. They are durable, intelligent, and able to knock vehicles around and tear enemy soldiers apart.
-The Dragidoo is a hulking monstrous thing standing anywhere from sixteen to nearly thirty feet tall. These terrifying creatures are known to bully Brekka and draconic apex predators from their territories and were known to openly conflict with dragons. They have thick feathers making these hulks look even bigger, heavy armored scales able to stop even modern small arms covering their lower torsos, chests, and head, and their massive beaks have a crushing edge for snapping bone in half. Able to breathe their draconic element at two to three times the power of an Axe Beak, a true Dragidoo can be enough to threaten any force not equipped for dealing with armor. Dragidoos are generally too unpredictable to serve any force and are prone to turning aggressive toward anyone who abuses their smaller cousins, making them dangerous to keep in cities where dollidoos are worked to death. The only known ‘tame’ Dragidoo serves General Downy and was known for throwing around light tanks and crushing cars under his massive, webbed feet.
