Writing Worlds with Words

A Primer on Conceptual Beings.

Understanding Conceptual Beings by Tir Ore

Demons are conceptual beings bound to negative mortal beliefs and thought. The most numerous of the Conceptual beings but also the weakest in power. Demons rule over the lowest layer of the Conceptual planes teeming planes of fire, acid, and ice. They have access to extraordinary metals, alchemical ingredients, and other fantastic materials. It is difficult to truly kill a demon requiring a powerful magical or divine weapon or being though the embodied vices are virtually unkillable as far as I can gather. I at least have not been able to source any information on the death of a Lord of Hell.

Demons are generally not actively hostile to mortals unless the mortals radiate hostility. Demons are composed of negative emotions, trauma, and pain. They tend to be more easily afflicted to their vice but tend to mimic the very mortals whose mind shaped them. Though when exposed to mortals, their inner thoughts can influence behaviors, making them more aggressive, amplifying their vice, and prone to violence.

Primordial Demons should be seen as extreme threats being born of the sins and negative ideas of the Gods and even the weakest Primordial demon stands as a near equal to the Lords of Hell. Thankfully most dwell deep in Hell with their great Queen Decor.

Demons are dangerous, and some weave plots against the mortal world recruiting and coercing demonic hordes to fill their plots. Demons can be defined by several main types; Embodiment, Absorption, and Projection. Embodiments give demons unnatural traits based on their Vice. Absorption gives demons the means to grow stronger from their own and others acting on their vice, such as a Gore demon gaining strength from gore and blood. Projecting allows demons to influence others by pressing their Vice onto them, such as Lust Demons creating obsessive lust.

Angels are conceptual beings bound to positive mortal beliefs and thought. The second most numerous of the Conceptual beings. Angels rule over the central layer of the Conceptual planes with gleaming marble, gold, clear water and elemental wonder. They have access to extraordinary metals, alchemical ingredients, and other fantastic materials. It is difficult to truly kill an angel requiring a powerful magical or divine weapon or being though the embodied virtues are virtually unkillable as far as I can gather. No sources are available on the killing of an arch-angel.

Angels are generally more hostile to mortals if their virtue is in question. Angels are composed of positive emotions, triumphs, and joy. They tend to radiate their virtue, but as many see them as self-righteous creatures, it has shaped them into being far more hostile creatures than demons. Shaped by mortal thoughts they can still be calmed by calm minds and enjoy the company of the virtuous.

Primordial Angels should be seen as extreme threats being born of the virtues and dreams of the Gods and even the weakest Primordial Angel stands as a near equal to the Archangels. Thankfully most dwell in the High Heavens with Vis.

Angels are dangerous though tend to give little to no attention to the mortal world, viewing themselves as the Guardians who keep the denizens of Hell from invading the mortal world. Angels can be defined by several main types; Embodiment, Absorption, and Projection. Embodiments give angels unnatural traits based on their Virtue. Negation gives Angels the means to grow stronger when others embody the Vice opposite their Virtue. Projecting allows Angels to influence others by magnifying or minimizing their Virtue in them.

Concepts are conceptual beings bound to more neutral mortal beliefs and thought. The least common Conceptual beings but the most powerful. Concepts rule over the highest layer of the Conceptual planes full of abstract, strange, and mind twisting constructs. They have access to extraordinary metals, alchemical ingredients, and other fantastic materials. It is difficult to truly kill a concept requiring a powerful magical or divine weapon or being though the Conceptual Lords are unkillable seeming to be pseudo-Forces.

Concepts are the least hostile of the Conceptual beings and only engage in violence if others show active hostility, aggression, or disregard for property. Concepts embody neutral ideas, more varied concepts such as time and space. They tend to be barely or outright unaffected by mortal emotions and thoughts.

Concepts do not have primordial variants, but the Lords of Mind are far more powerful than Archangels and Demon Lords and serve Tacitum.

Concepts are generally inactive on the mortal coil, making them the least dangerous of the Conceptual Beings. They tend to embody, project, and control their Concepts, giving them far more versatility than Demons and Angels.
