Relics of the Dead Age.
*Relics are objects that have absorbed personality, tragedy, raw emotion, and other extremes from mortal and divine life. They gain power from those who once held them and are a major source of power among those evading the Astarte forces. *
Relic Name: The Slyphstone Serpent
Type: Misc.
Origin Class: Idols of the Thralls.
Appearance: This serpent is made of smooth black stone made from the shell of a Septrinian. Even without the magic, this trinket would be unbreakable. It does not glimmer; it reflects no light; it is always warm and grows searing hot in direct sunlight. The detail on the scales makes it look as if it were caught moving forward. It feels shifty, and one feels as if it could deliver the last kiss you’d ever get before eternal rest. It is the symbol of Kreik, demon lord of Deceit.
Phenomenal Traits:
The Liar’s Tongue: When channeling this relic, your tongue becomes not mere silver but gold, platinum, and diamond. You speak circles around others and spin yarns to rival the great troubadours. Though one does find it difficult to express one’s emotions truthfully… you cannot make yourself vulnerable. You can’t open up; you must keep the world outside where your words protect the terrible monster you are on the inside. Lying comes all too easily for you when channeling this relic.
Shedding Skin: You may molt your skin, painful but useful, taking on the physical characteristics of a target whose blood you’ve ingested that day. You mimic their voice, mannerisms, and appearance perfectly for a short period of time. The more you use this, the less of what you were left.
The Greater Tongue: As great an orator as the Slyphstone Serpent makes you, you are but a fool meddling in the affairs of gods. Kreik speaks with such sincerity, such certainty, such a skill that he spins you like spider silk into the web. He is the snake coiling around your throat, fangs landing sweet kisses to poison your relationships. He whispers lies, turning you further against your friends, isolating, twisting, and destroying all that makes you. When one thinks of relinquishing the relic, one fills one’s head with lies about the horrible outcomes of letting go.
Comfort and Terror: The scorpion is safety, the scorpion is your friend, and the scorpion protects you. You can never abandon it as it will never abandon you. You hear Sol whisper sweet warnings of all that might be out to get you. Every plotting friend, every vicious enemy, and every self-loathing fool. You are vulnerable to demons of fear and must make an incredible act of will to relinquish this relic.
