Major Cities of Ithia: Ryu.

Ryuu. Capital Cities of the Vigint Empire. Seat of Shogunate Power.

Nicknamed the Many Cities, The City of Gates, The City of Swords, The Shogun’s Seat, The Place where Dragon’s Rest.

Ryuu is an old city, renamed after the Shogunate clan seized power and took control from civil and Imperial authorities. Divided into three districts that act as separate cities. Kitaseki, The City of Gates, and the City of the Swords. Kitaseki is a sprawl of houses, businesses, plazas, and fortresses. The City of Gates is the holy city, a place of temples restricted to priests of the various spirits of Dodicerous. A place of beauty surrounded by sealed gates protected by statues of mythical creatures of Dodicerous. No metal is allowed into the City of Gates, and all entering must step through a gate of large, magically enhanced lodestones that can physically tear ferrous metals off people. The City of Swords is the great palace of the Shogun, with an empty city around it. Layers of defensive walls rise on raised tiers, a city rising inside it where the spirits of ancestors might linger and rest in splendor.

Ryu and its cities are home to many considered wonders, with the City of Gates having some of the most beautiful architecture on the continent; a few buildings in the City of Gates might not be considered wonders. One of the most renowned wonders of Ryu is the Tower of Dragons, a great stone monolith, shaped and carved by fire, where Violet dragons roost in large tunnels bored through the once-molten stone.

Ryu is spiritually led by a multitude of spirit cults.

Ryu averages a population of 900 thousand humans and 12 thousand violet elves.

Ryu garrisoned 300 samurai serving as the Shogun’s personal bodyguard, 12 thousand-foot soldiers, 7 Violet Dragons, and 200 Yoriki Samurai.

Kitaseki is divided into rings of housing set around a central market area, with lower castes further from the center. Secondary marketplaces are built in front of the City of Swords and the City of Gates.

Ryu is mostly built on soft, saturated alluvium that is prone to shifting and liquefaction during earthquakes.

Entry into the City of Swords and the City of Gates is closely scrutinized and restricted. Foreigners are not allowed into Ryu at all, and only those born to Dodicerous are allowed entry.
