Dead Age – People of Renown: General Joost.

General Janos Joost, The Tester, The Beetle, The Machinist.

Nicknames: The Machinist, The Prototype Soldier, The Powered, The Hydraulic, Beetle, and The Spark.

General Joost is fascinated by new discoveries in electronics. The punch-card and vacuum-tube era has come and will soon be gone. Hydraulics, capacitors, and an understanding of light projection and perception will pave the future. Joost is a genius in problem-solving, working well with General Kanandy’s theoretical research and implementing practical prototypes. He commands Astarte’s Prototype Division, testing, manufacturing, and otherwise pushing the envelope of Astarte technology. While he is not a hardened soldier, he has become a fairly terrifying threat through military technological advances such as exoskeletons, power armor, and improved weapon design and ballistics. He puts most of his faith in his faithful second, Generalleutnant Alfred Oros.

Joost was once bound to a wheelchair; he saw himself as weak and focused on strengthening the one muscle he could. Joost is generally emaciated, nearly skin and bone, and often can’t stomach even the plainest food. He has sparse, prematurely white hair; his eyes are sunken, and deep bags form beneath them, so full of rage and life that one can’t help but look away, lest they be consumed in their inferno. Joost spends much of his spare time building, optimizing, and maintaining his personal suit of power armor, which he has designed to allow him to walk once more. He is rarely seen outside it, protected by his armored exoskeleton. He proceeds into battle wielding a heavy machine gun with the ease of hydraulic muscle. Clad in shiny black armor a leather trench coat, gas mask with back-up air supply, and tall peaked cap.
