Factions of the Dead Age: The Virand.

The Factions of the Dead Age.

The Virand

‘The Unbowed Dragon.’

The Virand are an organized criminal element led by a collection of smaller criminal groups. Trained urban guerrillas, the Virand started out as a civilian rebellion against Astarte’s occupation of Ashike. Taking up the ideals of the shinobi and samurai. Warriors of shadow that brought down the overwhelming invaders in shadow, silence, and isolation. When the Empire broke, when the Shogun gathered his remaining samurai and charged the Astarte forces, when the back of the Ashike was shattered, the Virand carried on the war. They have fought the Arassi in the shadows, Astarte on the streets; they have bombed, murdered, and corrupted everything they could and paved the way for the new Ashike to overthrow the Astarte’s now-rusting fist. Now they run underground logistics, ruling the street in shadow and light with open offices, blatant members with intricate tattoos, and men who move in shadow and kill in silence.

The Virand have influence in Dodicerous, Mariland, Dophia, Axandria, Kaidia, and Talis’Vrok.

The Virand power is spread across its Family Clans. It has public, open, and loud leadership, as well as more intricate, faceless leaders who rule from the shadows.

The Virand have deep pockets, running smuggling operations across several continents, moving guns, drugs, and medical supplies to where they’re most needed at a price. They have significant influence with the ATU, buying government officials, funding their runs, and aiding those who secure their chosen men’s power. The Virand smuggle, extort, and protect the neighborhoods they rule, and many of their members are trained urban combatants who excel in close-range, brutal combat. The Virand in the light of day pursue the appearance of honor, dedication, and a warrior presence, but when night falls, they become vengeful spirits of shadow.
