The Daughters of the Sun.
The Motto.
‘The Light that guides and guards the darkness.
The Clan.
The second of the vampire clans and most feared by other vampires. They were an attempt to make more agreeable hunters of men for the Septrinian. They carry a very specific look, passing as mortal, and often pair with First Sons or rule lands by themselves. They lead their fellow vampires with fear and power over the death sentence that is the light of Siger. They are one of the few Vampire species that humans tend to welcome into their lands, mistaking a creature of light for one of good. They exclusively recruit women into their clan.
The Hunger.
The Daughters of the Sun feed on innocence, bleeding their cynicism and weariness into fresh bodies. Of the vampires, they need to feed the least often and mostly survive off the light of Siger. Violet light can cause Daughters to feel sluggish, while red light can cause manic energy.
The Power.
The Daughters can feel anything touched by the light of Siger, giving them a mental overview of large swathes of area, generally too much information to be useful; some of the most powerful Daughters are aware of everything going on outdoors in their lands. They can lift roughly twice their body weight, are resistant to mundane weapons, and are naturally as graceful as a ballerina, agile as a gymnast, and flexible as a contortionist. They regenerate rapidly while in direct sunlight, can command and emit holy sunlight, and are invulnerable to the touch of Siger and other holy power.
The Beast.
The Daughters can take the form of Phoenixes of pure sunlight. They can command, control, and influence Roosters, Scarabs, Salamanders, and Jaguars.
The Bane.
The Daughters of the Sun have an extremely easy-to-identify appearance, are highly vulnerable to fire, and are the most mortal of the Vampire Clans, which means most attacks that get past their magically tough skin can cause grievous wounds or injury. Daughters do not heal or change in darkness. Magical effects, wounds, and other maladies will not fade while they linger in darkness. While in direct light, a daughter can only be killed by piercing the heart, brain, decapitation, or by burning. They are highly vulnerable to fire and can burst into flames from the lightest of sparks. Remains should be buried with Aloe vera, honey, and turmeric.
The Face.
It is unknown if becoming a Daughter of the Sun causes physical changes, though all daughters are pale-skinned, petite, pretty, and blonde-haired women. They seem to be aiming for a look resembling Mealis the Lady of Light, possibly to engender greater terror in other clans. Their eyes become golden halos of light with blood-red pupils, their light bleached out by the brilliance of their irises. They attempt to dress and portray themselves as refined upper-class women. Finely dressed, prim, proper, and reserved. They avoid physical confrontation and attempt to solve their problems with an application of burning light, even if it burns away their loyal servants as collateral damage.
The Disease.
The Daughters of the Sun sire new members from a stock of selectively bred mortals. The process of making a daughter is intricate, with the hopeful being locked away from all light for at least a week. Hooded, they are dragged into a chamber where they’re bound in a circle. Here, a daughter feeds on them while they are struck with the full brilliance of a daughter’s light, forcing it in as they empty them out. After roughly a minute, the hood is removed, and they are forced to stare into the golden light of their grave mother’s eyes until they’re reflected on the newest daughter.
The Cure
The Daughters of the Sun can be freed if trapped in complete darkness for an equal duration to the time they were cursed, letting the corrupted light bleed out of them until only the flesh remains.
