Evangalis. Capital City of the Evari Empire. Political seat of power in Evar and the Empire.
Nicknamed the White City, The City of Marble, The Grand City, The City of Lights, The Sprawl, The City of Roads, The Chamber Pot, The Keg, The Hive, The Trinity City, and The Pyrite City.
Evangalis is a sprawling city where large cities growing borders eventually joined together. The largest city on Dophia, it straddles the Nor River and splits it into two channels, one used for the Alchemist District and the other for general civic purposes. The most diverse city on the plane, Evangalis is home to species across Dophia, including ambassadors, merchants, diplomats, and outcasts seeking safety in the open city. This burgeoning city is marred with towering tenements, sprawling slums tucked away from the civic centers and wealthier districts where seas of white marble rise and polished, gleaming glory. Cultures from across the Empire make their home here, making Evangalis a powder keg of cultural disputes, hospitality differences, and language barriers. Evangalis is one of the few places you can find food, fashion, and muddled mixes of cultures from across the plane.
Evangalis is home to the Primary Hall of Magi, the Alchemists Guild, and Bard College. It has wonders such as the Evari Imperial Palace, the Senate Halls, the Arena of Fates, the Arena of Zerairel, the Colossus of Roe, the Pillars of Salt and Purity, the Citadel of Evanglis, the Cathedral of Light and Dark, and the Imperial Museum. It has guild houses from the Warrior Guild, Adventurer’s Guild, Guild of Masks, The Brotherhood of the Death’s-Head, The Guild of Doctors, Guild of Fools, Guild of Tongues, Guild of Mourners, and more.
Evangalis is spiritually led primarily by the Cult of Mealis, but the Cults of Zatolen, Zerairel, Ondra Seir, The Siblings, Paladar, and Carabella maintain significant influence as well.
Evangalis has a population of 1.5 million humanoids, with roughly 50% being Evari.
Evangalis Garrisons 3 Evari Legions, 12 Evari Guard Companies (These are often deployed to assist in civil projects), The Senatorial Guard, The Imperial Honor Guard, Many Holy, Arcane, and Martial Orders, and the personal regiments of the social elites. The City is divided by walls into different districts, though some have been cannibalized, collapsed, or rebuilt along different lines as the city grew and changed. Several strong fortification points are spread through the city to allow population control and force projection. The city constabulary maintains several guardhouses, gateposts, checkpoints, and a large prison in the Alchemist District.
The city is divided into districts, mostly denoted by walls, a guardhouse, and a small commercial sector. This includes the Civic Center, The White District (Upper Class), The Alchemist’s District (Alchemist and Industrial), The Hill District (Upper Class Commercial and Master Crafts), The Iron District (Craft/Trade), Steel District (Commercial, Temples, Guilds), Copper District (Lower Class), Tin District (Tenements), Mercury District (Slums), and Rust District (Outsider District).
Evangalis is divided into three sides of the river, with the northern part built on red clay and the southern parts on black loam. They get the majority of their water from ground wells and the Great River Nor, which splits in the city. The Nor that feeds into the Alchemist District is not fit for drinking and is so thick when it leaves the city that one can almost walk on it.
Evangalis restricts non-humans and Gallus to live within the Rust District, except for formal ambassadors and delegates, making it the most socially and economically diverse district.
