Writing Worlds with Words

Arcana of Ithia: The Warlocks of Miecara.

Warlocks are strange casters serving the Pagan Cult of Miecara and his ascended children, including The Warlock King, The Raven Queen, The Elk King, The One who Sleeps, The Idle Heart, The Queen of Crows, The Queen of Harts, The Lady Lamb, The Endless Pyre, The Mistress Mouse, Brother Dearest, and The Forgotten One. Warlocks are mighty warriors and limited casters, capturing conceptual beings, normally Demons, and binding them into their bodies to fuel their magic. The rituals created by Miecara, The Warlock King, and The Raven Queen are kept secret within the Covens. Witches cast their magic primarily inward, channeling magic in limited degrees.

Witchcraft primarily draws upon the power of captured Concepts, mainly demons, as well as other outsiders. Warlocks focus their gained power inward, strengthening their bodies, weaving resistances, and armoring their skin. Warlocks are powerful and use that strength to channel their outward magic, reflecting the captured concepts, though the power of their magic still relies on the caster’s perception in others. Warlocks study the movement of stars, celestial bodies, seasons, and omens, gaining power and altering their powers based on these aspects. Warlocks do not age and only scar from injuries from magic or iron.

Warlocks are highly ordered, segmented into Covens, Orders, and Services. The primary order of Warlocks is as follows.

Miecara – The Pagan God Miecara.

The Warlock King and The Raven Queen – Pagan Gods of the Covens.

The Coven Gods – The Elk King, The One who Sleeps, The Idle Heart, The Queen of Crows, The Queen of Harts, Lady Lamb, The Endless Pyre, Mistress Mouse, Brother Dearest, and The Forgotten One. They lead a main Coven.

Coven Father– Supreme Warlock leading a faction, Service, or Order.

Coven Uncle – The Lead Warlock beneath a Coven Mother.

Mystagogue– High Warlocks serving as leaders, lieutenants, and masters of their craft.

Hexclad – Elite Warlocks trained to serve as the personal heavy guard of Coven Gods, Mothers, and Matrons.

Coven Brothers – Warlocks serving a variety of roles in the Coven.

Coven Sons – Freshly trained warlocks who haven’t gained the trust to act on their own.

Hopefuls – Those born with warlock blood and seek to learn the ways of the Coven.

The Orders are internal organizations often based on the Demons acquired, while each Coven focuses on drawing on specific demons; they do not rely exclusively on a single source. Orders frequently form around combining the powers from different Sins and what works best together.

The Services are interior groups of Warlocks serving a specific cause, including Alchemists, Acquisitions, Coven Theology, Paternity, Labor, Martial, Hexcraft, and War.
