Writing Worlds with Words

The Fairy Hunts of Ithia.

The Hunts of the Fae is primarily led by the King of the Hunt Rowan. The Wild Hunt is formed with hunters from the Nature Court and certain species borrowed from other hunts, except for when Great Wild Hunts are held, in which case hunters from all the Hunts join.

The Wild Hunt – The Wild Hunt is all blood, sweat, bloodlust, hunger, and terror. It is Hunt, it is predator and prey, wolf and rabbit, and it cannot be stopped except for the breaking dawn. It is led by Huntmaster Megroth and his lieutenants Ryal, Ribbons, Irewood, and Gildaflame. Hunters wear armor of metal leaf scales, wood, thorns, and leather.

The Mad Hunt – The Mad Hunt is chaos, it is burning of psychedelics, inhaling toxic gases, it is a twisting of perception, of walking through the mind, to let go of all that binds and hunt new experiences and creatures. Less blood thirsty than the Wild Hunt, but far more terrifying once they set their sights upon you. Led by the Huntmistress Pinky and Huntmaster Overit and their lieutenants Bell’Tee, Loo’Boo, Crocosmile, Ratterkin, Corgus, and Kittensworth. The Mad Hunt wears mangled armor salvaged from fallen Fae and never repaired, draped in layers of tattered cloth and banners of broken foes; many wield iron weapons, having learned to draw a mad narcotic pleasure from its poison.

The Honey Hunt – The Honey Hunt is order, it is craving, a wanting of more, it is not meager survival but the need to thrive. The Honey Hunt seeks sweets, new flowers, and battle, dominance over anything that stands before them to prove their greatness. Led by the Huntmaster Nightshade and his lieutenants, Nettle, Holly, Cherryblossom, Venus, Cardinal, Yarrow, and Trillium. The Honey Hunt wears honey-gold armor, bright floral colors, and enamel paintings of bees, honey pots, and flowers.

The White Hunt the Courage of Terror, the Beauty of Horror, and The Calm of Harrowing Times. The White Hunt is vengeance; it is justice; it is the breaking of unjust laws and the chains that bind those who are unworthy of them. They pursue monsters, mortals worse than animals, beasts, and nightmares, and seek to free those sealed away but don’t deserve it. Led by the Huntmaster Righteous Fury and his lieutenants, Gleaming Steel, Dreamy Muses, Watched Clouds, Deep Sleep, and Cool Breeze. They wear bright armor of brushed, mirrored silver, cloth of gold, and cloaks of purest white, which they clean their weapons on after each prey is caught and punished, leaving them striped in the brown-red of drying blood.

The Dark Hunt – The Dark Hunt is fear, not terror; it is spooky, scary, and in general, the joy of fear. The Dark Hunt is the least dangerous of the Hunts, and their hunters claim victory by touching a foe without harming them. They enjoy laughing and seeking bliss in spooking mortals and other fae alike. Though when drawn into the Wild Hunt, their members are some of the most terrifying of the Hunters, being of the greatest skill in stalking prey and swiftly killing in absolute silence. Led by the Huntmistress, The Peace of Slaughter and her Lieutenants. They wear armor of blackened Fae Metal, captured night sky, enameled paintings of jack-o’-lanterns, skulls, and many eyes.
