Writing Worlds with Words

Gods of Ithia: Prince Hawthorn.

Hawthorn. Prince Consort, Master of the Bath, Fairy Lord, Artist, Shaper of Things, and Prince of Pleasure.

Known as Blackthorn, The Bearer of Blessed Blades, The Thorn Shield, The Prince of Sacred Thorns, and The Defender of the Grove.

Hawthorn is an Oberous Prince with skin green as Hawthorn leaves, speckled with white and yellow flower spots, berry-red freckles splotching his face, and his hair runs down to the floor, the color and texture of Hawthorne bark. He is the most beautiful of Viilnor’s Consorts and walks the faelands in nothing but a sash where daggers with leaf-shaped blades rest bare-bladed. He has no voice and speaks in the hiss of water on hot stones, the crackle of fires, the rustle of blankets pulled over freezing flesh; he speaks in all things warm, comfortable, and against the cold.

Hawthorn is sensual, passionate, and extremely outgoing. He serves as muse for fairy artists, as a symbol of beauty, as a being of raw sensation. He is the High Queen’s friend and confidant, and he ensures her company and emotional protection.
