Writing Worlds with Words

Arcana of Ithia Expanded: Spell Conjurors.

Order Name: The Conjurors of the Veil.

Sub-Orders: Order of Enchanters, Order of Summoners, Order of Channelers, Order of Entropy, Order of Eternity, Order of Blades, and Order of White Scales.

Patron God/Founder(s): Septriss and Sekivar.

Renown Members: Emperor Sekivar the Grey, Empress Omiseth the White, Prince Sekseth the White, Korskgalla the Moonbreaker, Gallack the Weaver of Veils, Verdlai the Binder of Fates, Gorskalla the Caller of Names, Silvort the Unending, and Leporo the Unmaker.

Feats of Power: The Spell Conjurors, almost entirely and exclusively Septrinian, have many feats of power to their name, from Korskgalla tearing the Moon Azure from the sky and using it to destroy the Ork home continent to Sekivar, Gallack, Verdlai, and Gorskalla blocking the influence of the Gods from Ithia. They have created spells to forcefully summon Gods, bind their powers, and create new forms of energy to be bane unto them.

Restrictions: Culturally restricted to Septrinian.

Power Source: Life.

Forming Source: Words of Power.

The Drain: Conjurors burn Life turning organic matter, spirit, and life force into raw energy. They can choose to burn their own lifeforce to power their magic. Though being founded by such long-lived and intelligent creatures, they have learned to harvest trinkets from corpses, gather the energy of an entire body into small bones, filets of flesh, and teeth. They know techniques to draw away moisture, preserve energy, and stave off rot without losing power.

Tools of Trade: Sooli; thin blades with saw teeth on the back spine made of Slyphstone, handles of pearl wrapped in silk. The Sooli is used to gather pieces rich in life force.

The Conjurors were once extremely organized beneath the rule of the Black Veil Empire, but now they are scattered and only locally organized. Spell Conjurors are versatile, powerful, and highly capable. Drawing their power from life force allows them to build up large stockpiles of collected energy, but makes them vulnerable to losing it.

The Conjuror’s primary advantage is their ability to cast magic with life force; techniques allow concentrating life force from an entire corpse into one or more smaller pieces, generally bone, which the caster dries and preserves. The farther from life a corpse, the less life force can be drawn. Certain life forces can be used to empower aligned spells, such as fire-aligned creatures can empower fire spells, creatures of order can help enforce order, and certain organic foci can be used to cast devastating ritual spells beyond Words of Power. Conjuror orders are among the few mages who can forge true enchantments. Spell Conjurors can handle some steel and little iron while casting their magic, but especially struggle when in contact with materials that are associated with death, such as lead, ash, and grave dirt.

Their people wiped out by divine plague, their cities withdrawn into the earth and plagued with nightmares to drive off grave robbers and looters, their empire ash, the remaining Conjurors find solace as mercenary casters, scholars, tutors, and mainly amass in secluded convents where they raise mortal slaves to fill what roles are needed for the aging, crippled, and infertile remnants of the Septrinian. There is no more glory, no more great heights, only decay of something once so great.
