Writing Worlds with Words

Arcana of Ithia Expanded: Sorcerers

Order Name: Sorcerer.

Sub-Orders: –

Patron God/Founder(s): –

Renown Members: Sarria the Scarlet and The Sorceress Queen of the Danadane.

Feats of Power: Sorcerers have many feats of power from Sarria erasing entire armies with a flick of a finger, enthralling armies of undead, green skins, and animals with their mere presence, and creating their own celestial bodies as pseudo-gods.

Restrictions: Sorcery comes from blood, divine, fae, or outsider sources, often from the children of demigods or outside powers.

Power Source: Gravitas/Presence.

Forming Source: The Words of Power.

The Drain: Presence, using sorcery, drains the Presence. The more power that is drawn, the less real they feel; they become less colorful, less present, their tongues grow heavy, words become harder to form, and they feel less substantial. There are rumors that some sorcerers called upon so much power that they erased themselves from existence, leaving behind only the lingering sensation of something having been.

Tools of Trade: –

Sorcerers have no formal institutions; their magic stems from the divine, fae, or outsider blood. They are beautiful, terrible, or unspeakable beings. They are natural casters needing no training, and each sorcerer develops the fine points of their craft in unique ways according to their bloodlines. Sorcerers wield a few innate Words of Power tied to their bloodlines. They have the rawest power of any arcane path except for the Mancer.

Sorcerers wield focused power able to overpower all but Mancers in head-to-head spell combat. They radiate the Presence, spreading want, fear, terror, or other emotions around them like a glamour. They can wield their Presence to enthrall creatures vulnerable to control, such as non-sapient undead, green skins, kobolds, and animals. Sorcerers who drain too much of their Presence will lose control of their vassals. They avoid wearing iron and steel but can manage small amounts of both.

Sorcerers are driven towards control, towards great heights, and towards power. Their divine blood pulls them towards seeking their place among the heavens, though few ever amass the power to truly ascend.

Sorcerers are not organized but are drawn to grandeur, status, and comfort, and seek to build their homes as social elites.

Sorcerers have no ranks or organizations.
