Writing Worlds with Words

Creatures of Ithia Expanded: The World Turtles.

An Advanced Creature Profile by Vincent Groth.

The World Turtles.

The World Turtles are massive turtles that swim across Ithia’s oceans, with flat, stone-and-earth shells. Forests and plains grow upon their great shells; water flows from a geyser in the center of their shell. The World Turtle’s body is made of silica, salt, stone, and moss. They feed off saltwater and sunlight, expelling excess freshwater from their geyser as they need more salt than water. They are attributed as Demi-gods of Dwar’Vic and Zale, but as far as the Hall of Heroes can determine, they are constructs of Dwar’Vic’s craft.

World Turtles are massive, powerful, but generally passive. There is little on Ithia that could hope to harm these great beasts for some who can bear nations upon their back. When threatened, the World Turtle can snap a dragon in half with their great beaked jaws.

World Turtles serve as floating islands, bases for nomadic peoples, and as moving ecosystems. The World Turtles are not predators nor prey and primarily regulate the salt content of the oceans of Ithia.

World Turtles are rather passive, needing no food, save the minerals they find in salt water. World Turtles have no real weakness, but the moss that binds them together can be killed, their stone mined and broken, and those who call their shells home must keep them healthy or lose their homes.
