Writing Worlds with Words

Arcana of Ithia: The Choir of Stone.

The Choir of Stone, Du Nakka are individual, rugged, and handy Dwar craftsmen and spellcasters. They use their deep, powerful voices to chant, sing, and, through sound, resonate magic into stone. They shape stones, imbuing them with their ideal characteristics.

The Du Nakka shape stones with skill and craft; they sing their voices resonating with the rock around them, a chorus, a choir, of earth. Their voices empower their greatest artifacts: pillars that can repel natural and unnatural darkness, that keep back the spread of curses, that, when placed in formation, generate great shields to protect coats from wear and crushing waves. The Du Nakka maintains much of Dwar’s basic surface infrastructure. They avoid the claustrophobic holds of the Dwar remaining on the surface beneath the open sky. They are more commonly known for their ability to augment the ideal characteristics of stones. They can make Pumice so buoyant it floats across air and is used to make Dwar ships lighter and a few floats, though they cannot sustain much weight; they can imbue granite to make it greatly durable, quartzite almost immune to wear, and more. Their voices can carry through gemstones and, when resonated with a certain stone, provide small boosts to the meanings granted to those who wear them, allowing them to augment armies.

The Du Nakka are a small, unorganized group that recruits its members into small groups and teaches its new apprentices. While Du Nakka groups are willing to work with others for short periods, they try to preserve their smaller-group dynamics.
