Writing Worlds with Words

Gods of Ithia Expanded: Ero Zox the Mother of Monsters.

Ero Zox: Goddess of Monsters.

Known across the plane as Ero Zox, The Hopebane, The Mother of Monsters, The Hall Breaker, The Great One, The Heroes’ Burden, The Lady Titan, and The Bone Gnasher.

Ero Zox is a member of the Ko’Cai, Gods of Malice, the Fell Gods, and the Monstrous Gods.

Holy Books: The Book of Suns.

Ero Zox is the monster, the embodied vice, the blurred reflection made beast, the twisting of outsiders, the foreign; she is all that one deems monster. She is the evil we make, the monsters in our hearts, and the denial of soul.

Her Symbol is the Herobane – The skull of some ancient beast backed by a broken shield. Massive antlers rise from the skull on one side, and on the other, a crushed bloody helm, and a sword is driven into the bone.

Ero Zox has no celestial body; her presence on Ithia causes Abyssal Lights… places that reach deep into Ithia not occupied by species like the Dwar emit a haunting, deep light. Those touched by this light can hear the screams of those they’ve allowed or caused to die, whispers of lost loved ones, and accusations and spite of those they’ve killed.

Ero Zox’s divine plane is a city. A jungle growing through the gaps, beasts and monsters stalk the street, wearing the masks of civilized beings. The earthen roads pitted and rutted with rivers of blood and tears lead from the great palace where Ero Zox sits upon her throne of broken slaves and bone.

Ero Zox does not maintain or need trinkets.

Ero Zox is a wall with a foundation of large hooves, snow-white flesh rising up and out into the legs of this mountainous goddess. She is eternally heavy with child, thickly padded, well-endowed, and her arms visibly muscled. Her callused hands are tipped with retractable feline claws; a great lion’s mane wraps around her throat, antlers rise from her head, and her mouth extends slightly, filled with crocodilian teeth. She has small horns like a rhino upon her nose. Every step is an earthquake, and every breath is a gale. She rarely wears much and enjoys airy, light, and scant outfits that show off her beauty, strength, and grace as a titan of a god.

Ero Zox revels in terror and lust. She enjoys taking form to seduce mortals and absorb their deepest terrors, birthing new and terrible monsters. She spreads monsters to challenge the rising hero, to pressure the weak to seek strength, and distorted reflections to show the evil inside. She dreams of a world where all those who call themselves civilized will wear their monsters on the outside. She grants her divine servants the power to control monsters, view a target’s deepest fears, hatreds, and wounds. They can, when facing death, infuse themselves with all their flaws, scars, and masks, becoming the monster inside on the outside.

Few worship Ero Zox; those who do tend to be fascinated by the evil hidden behind masks, those who despise hypocrites, and those who find a strange beauty in the monstrous. Her fine divine servants are treated like children by the great Mother of Monsters. Small shrines are made to her in secret places where no natural light might reach. Sacrifices of masks, secrets, and confessions are what most appease her.
