The Gem Guard is an order of battle mages or shield spells where spell sword type mages focus on augmenting the offensive ability of a battle mage; they concentrate on protection. Gem Guards are maintained by several cultures, including the Danadane, Evar, Freia, Paramor, and other Dophian high cultures. They often serve to augment the guard of significant cities, counteracting threats too dangerous for guards but not warranting full military attention. Their orders include the Ruby Guard, the Emerald Guard, the Sapphire Guard, the Shimmer Guard, the Diamond Guard, and the Quartz Guard.  

The Gem Guard are highly focused on protecting themselves, with some Orders able to project their protection to others. Their specialized magic focuses on storing magical power in gemstones, which they embed into their armor, acting as potent magical foci that bolster their protection. Baseline gemstones create a magical barrier between those forged by the same Gem Guard, creating magical protective fields across their armor. Some wear gem-encrusted jewelry, which acts as armor when undercover, though most prefer the backup security of armor. They can enchant gems to grant specific elemental protection with individual orders, keeping individual skills and abilities, making them unique.  

The Gem Guard are highly ordered, and while they maintain separate and distinct Orders, they all fall beneath a High Lord Elected by the Order Leaders. 

High Lord – Elected Leader of the Lord Commanders. 

Lord Commander – The Leader of a singular Order of the Gem Guard selected from the noble members of the Order. 

Knight Commander – A high-ranking Gem Guard is often in charge of a city’s Gem Guard.

Lieutenants – Staff and Officers who serve as Commanders directly.  

Captain – A Gem Guard in charge of a district or precinct of Gem Guard. 

Sergeant at Arms – The Highest Sergeant under a Captain. 

Sergeant – Officers of a Gem Guard district. 

Special Constable – General ranked members of the Gem Guard. 

Special Guard – Low Ranking Gem Guard. 

Guard Squire – Gem Guard trainee.
