The Order of Burning Depths, The Firedamp Mages, these venerated Dwar are masters of fireless light, able to detect and control dangerous gases and fumes. They hold a prestigious role in Dwar society and keep cities and mines safe. Easily identified by their thin neat beards, shaved heads, and when on duty thick heavy robes with respirator masks. They have large staffs with flameless light which their order manufactures in secret. 

The Firedamp mages can control and move Coal Dust, Firedamp, Blackdamp, Whitedamp, Stinkdamp, and Afterdamp. They have minor curative abilities to help restore damage from asphyxiation, draw heat from recent burns, and draw out heavy metals and carbon from the lungs. They are also able to cause a magical resonance in gemstones, causing them to emit faint clean light. They turn these crystals into thick glass that glows and provides much of the light across Dwar cities and in the Firedamp mage’s staff.  

The Firedamp mages follow a strict regimental rank order. 

Dampbane – The Leader of a mountain’s Firedamp mage order. 

Deeplight – Lieutenants of a Dampbane. 

Underlight – Sergeants, leader of small groups of Firedamp Mages. 

Damplighter – Veteran Firedamp Mages. 

Dampener – Trained Firedamp Mages. 

Unlit – Hopefuls seeking to learn the craft and skills of a Firedamp Mage.
