Writing Worlds with Words

Gods of Ithia Expanded: Nul’Maar the Living Death.

Nul’Maar: Goddess of Lichcraft and Evil.

Known across the plane Nul’Maar, The Lady Lich, Mistress of Evil, The Living Death, The Dark Queen, the Ascendant Darkness, and the Kiss of Death.

Nul’Maar is a member of the Ko’Cai, The Gods of Magic, The Monstrous Gods, and The Undying Gods.

Holy Books: The Book of Suns.

Nul’Maar is all the rituals, preparations, and ruinous power required to become a Lich. She is not merely malice but true and eternal evil. The Daughter of Nil’Brek and Agis Katar.

Her Symbol is The Evil – A skull with black heart-shaped eye-sockets, a twisted smile, and a circle of nails driven into it like a horsehair fan.

Nul’Maar when active, which is rare, is represented by the Face of Evil a skull-shaped body resembling a pale white moon far too close for comfort. Fire burns in the great craterous sockets, and rock rains down from its crumbling jaw. While active divine magic is diminished, courage is smothered, and hope is muted.

Nul’Maar’s divine plane is a palace of bone-china bricks, ash, and walls of stacked bodies like a twisting catacomb. Bloody water covers the floors and candles in floating skulls drift through the air casting black light that seems to be diffused through water giving her plane an abyssal appearance. She sits upon the throne shaped from the corpses of gods of past cycles, of pagan deities who reached for power, and the mountainous many who tried to rise to Lichdom. Those who fully ascended and still fell have their heads mounted across from her throne to display their eternal torment and serenade her in their endless screams.

Nul’Maar wields the Stave of Nul’Maar a sleek staff of polished ebony, a black crystal forms a heart at its tip at which ribs orbit like the rings of some distant world. Two wings jut out so that Nul’Maar’s albino ravens can perch when not in battle.

Nul’Maar is all the deathly beauty of every lost love, all the broken dreams, all the favorite flavors of nostalgia forever lost in childhood. She is the first broken heart, she is beauty, lust, pain, pleasure, and the death of all that was once great made pale lifeless flesh. She is the ghost of all that has gone before us and looked so much greater. She wears skintight shadows as clothing bound and trimmed in the remnants of a skeleton of a dead god keeping her in an eternal caress. Her black hair writhing with the screaming souls of those sacrificed to amass the power to breach the Veil. She tends to carry an expression of eternal daydreams.

Nul’Maar is pride beyond reason, greed above need, hunger at the cost of others, and envy of all she lacks. She is all the poisonous excess that drives men to murder, cheat, and inflict pain. She is malice and hatred, every small and great evil from the attempted slaughter of entire peoples to making someone’s life that small bit worse. Nul’Maar is a flirt but never at the expense of her pride; she manipulates, twists, and once shes had her fun viciously efficient. She does not monologue; she does not leave minions to deal with her foes, and she takes pleasure in watching the light fade from the eyes of her enemies in the closest and intimate means of killing. She grants her few divine servants the power to speed or slow decay, raise and command undead, catch and bind souls to power greater magics, knowledge of the rites of Lichcraft, the amplification of vices in a target, and the shaping of their own blood and bone into weapons.

Nul’Maar has few if any true worshippers and those who do are the most vicious, depraved, and monstrous creatures to walk in Ithia. She cares little for her followers and looks forward to watching them fail and add to her wall. She accepts the many sacrifices of soul, blood, flesh, and self to fuel the attempt to ascend to lichdom.
