Outsiders of Ithia: The Blackclad the Bearers of the Dead.

*The Celestials or Coelestis Exercitus, servants of the Gods are divided into Solnatus who serve the Seir’Ald, Orbisliberi who serve the Powers, and Astrumortus who serve the Fates.

The Solnatus of Ondra Seir are the Blackclad. The Souls of the Honored Dead who showed great promise in life and ascended into the ranks of the God of War’s personal retinue. The Blackclad are fiery wraiths encased in scorched black armor, black fire flickers from between the plates and their eyes burn a deep soulful blue. Blackclad wear the armor they died in but are each granted a large round shield covered in wax to adhere scriptures, prayers, spare coins for Kaxis, and roses for Marlis. Their armor is often decorated with trinkets of loved ones granted when they’ve returned the fallen war dead to their next of kin. The Blackclad are the most numerous of the Coelestis Exercitus and make up the core of the armies of the Gods.

The Blackclad are hand chosen from fallen warriors and heroes each one earned their place through skill, courage, and reckless abandon of self. They are all skilled warriors, capable officers, or great heroes. They are the most capable unit for war, tactics, and martial dominance. Their black armor can only be penetrated by steel, and their fiery bodies can only be truly damaged by steel that has tasted blood or powerful cold magic.

The Blackclad serve Ondra Seir by collecting the honored dead of war, giving mercy to the dying who can’t be saved, and carrying the bodies home on their blessed shields. The Blackclad serve as the elite core of the Coelestis Exercitus and are the most elite martial unit of the Gods. They are often recruited as guards for holy sites and bodyguards for Gods visiting the mortal world who have less combat capable celestials.

The Blackclad do not retreat, they do not route, they do not break. They are unwavering and can be caught in well-designed snares. They are vulnerable to extreme cold and powerful enough fire mages can control them enough to hold them in place.

The Blackclad come in levels of power and status including Legate, Centurion, Triarii, Principes, and Hastati.
