The Jarei a large creature resembling the mixture of a hawk and a raptor. They have two powerful legs with taloned feet, large bodies with the lower half covered in scales with heavy feathering on their heads, necks, backs, and wings. They have a massive wingspan, and an eagle like beak. Female Jarei tend to have simple brown feathers with soft reddish manes while males have white heads, brown bodies and colorful tails like a lesser peacock.  

Jarei are highly intelligent, able to glide long distances, and are highly durable and strong able to carry one to two fully grown humans. Jarei are highly capable pack hunters and are known for driving off adult dragons from hunting grounds. 

The Jarei is an apex predator that hunts in small groups, they can be tamed but attempts to domesticate the Jarei have failed.  Used as noble mounts which outclass the strength and aerial agility of creatures such as griffins, wyverns, and drakes.  

The Jarei due to their mass and size cannot take off from the ground without a significant running start.
