Creatures of Ithia Expanded: The Axibur.

An Advanced Creature Profile by Vincent Groth.

The Axibur is a large flightless bird, cousin of the penguin. The Axibur has clawed proto hands built into their wings not as nimble but capable of clawing and shaping ice. Theyh appear to be large pudgy balls with short beaks and tiny eyes.

-The Common Axibur has sleek black and white feathers coated in oils that protect it from the water and prevents it from freezing to their feathers. They are the smallest Axibur weighing in at thirty pounds. Females are easily marked by a crest of extra fluffy feathering on the chest and flaring out right where their wings connect.

-The Emperor Axibur is the largest Axibur species looking more oval than circle they waddle about weighing roughly a hundred and twenty pounds. Unlike the Common Axibur the Emperors have bright orange facing feathering along the chest, longer beaks, and their claws are substantially enlarged like an anteater and are known for disemboweling predators who attempt to make a meal of these large stout birds.

-The Cozy Axibur is slightly larger than the Common Axibur while appearing to be substantially larger. A domesticated species of Axibur bred for their extremely fluffy and waterproof feathering. Appearing to be a big puffy ball they need to be cared for by humanoids or they lose the ability to see. Cozy Axibur are seen as the sheep of the arctic providing warm waterproof materials for bedding and interiors of coats.

The Axiburs are less varied in ability to their Dollidoo nemeses. Axibur are capable of breathing super chilled air helping them build their ice-based homes and defenses. They are strangely great swimmers for their large bulbous shape and seem able to change their buoyancy as they can both easily float and dive under water. Their bodies can rapidly adjust to terrain and Axiburs seem to secret a light oil that allows them to belly slide across almost any surface with enough angle.

Axiburs are middle line predators and primitive sapient creatures who form small communities, hunt fish, and fend off predators to the best of their abilities. Humans hunt Axibur for their fat and feathers while some domesticate them to harvest their useful feathers. Axibur and Dollidoo have been waging a long-winded shadow war against one another, picking each other’s tail feathers to assert dominance.

The Axibur don’t really have any weaknesses save for the same as any mortal creature.
