The Harstal people originating from the Lands of Maria, the twin cities of Tvíburahjarta, once ruled by the Hjarta family started by the twins Aron favored by Talcor and Ester favored by Siger’Alst. Ethnic Harstalli have light to pale skin, dark hair, silver, grey, and extremely light blue eyes, and often freckled. Harstalli people are easily identified by their heart shaped freckles. The Harstalli are a small but powerful nation controlling the island of Paladar.
The Harstalli enjoy heavy, fatty food, hot and plentiful. They rely on an abundance of root vegetables such as beets and turnips. Their foods require a great many pickled and salted foods due to the limited warm months in Harstal lands. Harstal populations are spread out, highly independent, and highly agricultural to support the one major city.
The Harstalli do not kneel to kings they serve the twin crowns only through mutual respect. Highly independent with each town and village maintaining its own minor laws and order. The Capital assists with traveling judges and law keepers trained to enforce and maintain local law and order. Harstalli are a rough, hardy people, each man a hunter out of the farming season. All Harstalli men are required to train with bows and own a spear and drill with it during the off seasons. The center and concentrated point of culture is the Harstal capital of Tvíburarnir where libraries, art galleries, theaters, music halls, and the Great Ampitheater are open to the masses.
The Harstalli believe that the individual shall stands, the community will be empowered, and the state shall ascend. The Belief that personal pursuits, the building of value, the betterment of community, and the rise of the Harstal state are all interconnected. They are too small of a nation to be a real martial threat to its neighbors, but its hardy and dedicated people combined with their harsh climate has prevented their vasselization. They have joined the Evari Empire for trade rights and to avoid tariffs. They have strong connections with Evari land Trade and Markorathi sea trades making some of the best armor and weapon designs. Their craftsmen produce practical weapons, armor, tools, and other goods often decorated and beautiful. The Harstalli require all men train with bows and train in drills with spears.
The Harstal are limited in their own trade networks but have managed to form strong connections with the Evari and Markorathi merchants securing low rates when joining the Evari Empire. The Harstal export some of the highest quality weapons, armor, and tools. They export ice and mineral waters that have curative properties. There is little diversity in Harstalli cities as the climate is inhospitable and uncomfortable to many outsiders.
The Harstalli are a relatively small and minor cultural group that has formed alliances with the two biggest dogs in the most western section of Dophia being the Evari and Markorathi. They have a small professional military, a large body of militia, and a heavily fortified capital city.
