An Advanced Creature Profile by Vincent Groth.
The Slate Troll stands sixteen feet tall. Slate trolls are formed from large chunks of slate, can’t reproduce, and can’t function outside of the Horde. The first true challenge for an enemy fighting force the Slate Troll has thick armored spikes on its back that taper into sharp spikes, have thick hide skin, knuckle bones that are extended outside of the skin and thicken into natural knuckle dusters, and large goring tusks. They have flat faces, small beady eyes, thick brows, a bone plate over their foreheads, and large wide jaws.
The Slate Troll blood petrifies into slate oozing out into natural armor while closing wounds and stopping bleeding. Slate Trolls have reinforced bone that have petrified to support its bulk but this means they have trouble producing new blood cells with limited marrow.
The Slate Troll is the heavy elite guard of Orcs emissaries and leaders; often serving as their personal bodyguards and muscle. They also are deployed as walking siege weapons and heavy war beasts.
The Slate Troll’s blood petrifies when contacting oxygen this makes large piercing wounds the most dangerous. Their bodies build stoney masses from their blood which provide protection and limits mobility. Trolls often die from clotting of petrified blood that flakes into the blood stream. Slate Trolls have limited marrow as many of their major bones are petrified and limits their ability to replace blood cells.
