Cultures of Ithia: The Markorathi.

The Markorathi people originating from the Lands of Maria, the city state of Estrella Guia, once ruled by the Vencedor family. Ethnic Markorathi have darker tan skin, green and brown eyes, black, silver, and white hair, and are average height and build for Plains Humans. The Markorathi are a powerful and prideful nation-state under the Evari empire.  

The Markorathi love spicy, richly flavored food. They indulge in heavy foods flavored with citrus, spice, peppers, and flat breads. They use leaves to wrap some of their foods including masa filled with meats, cheese, peppers, and or sweat creamed corn, rice dishes, beans, breading, and large amounts of street foods in their heavily populated cities.  

The Markorathi have strict social codes and rigorous societal rules for the upper classes to distinguish themselves from the commoners. The Markorathi have a strong military culture with officers able to earn their way into the peerage with naval and land victories. Venerated soldiers can earn places in the officer corps allowing one of the most socially mobile societies in Ithia. While much of the higher arts are cost and class restrictive including their version of opera, grand ballets, orchestras, museums, art galleries, and sailing yachts. The Markorathi do maintain libraries and museums suited for the lower classes to stimulate and motivate the mind. 

The Markorathi believe that those of Marko are superior to the rest of humanity but are willing to work towards the betterment of mankind. The Markorathi navy is almost unmatched among the rest of the Evari Empire and their grand Galleons clad in Markorathi Steel are terrifying sights on the sea. Balanced in mercantile capabilities as well as naval dominance they control most of the trade from foreign lands and have the largest ports on the continent. They are the only Kingdom in the Evari Empire that can project its power across the seas and has colonies in distant lands. Its land armies are weaker and were no match for the combined strength of the Evari, Norgathi, and Norkin who vassalized them long ago. The Markorathi have a strong professional navy with a small corps of professional soldiers, an officer academy for naval and land officers, though mainly relies on levies for its land forces. The Markorathi culture presses people to learn sailing, fishing, and encourages swimming, running, and other cardio related sports allowing the Markorathi forces to outlast their enemies in stamina. 

While the Evari are masters of land trade the Markorathi dominate sea trade maintain strong commercial connections with Margo and Olysis and are effectively the sea trade of the Empire. The Markorathi are known for their naval developments with actual academies for the study and development of possibly technologies to further their powers on the sea against the steam powered ironclads of the Marok and the great Dragon ships of the Vigint. Marko is home to districts of foreigners primarily cultures of Dodicerous, the Lands of Kain, the Lands of Maria, and other foreign lands.  

The Markorathi maintain powerful commercial ties with the Evari, Olysis, Margo, The Marok, Vigint, and Lyngurd. The Markorathi are the third most powerful navy on this section of Ithia and the strongest navy on Dophia. They have a small professional military with a professional naval and army officer academy allowing their forces to be highly organized. The Markorathi take up the southwestern corner of the Continent.
