Creatures of Ithia: Insectoid Monsters.

The Undercrawler is a large heavy armored creature with ten bladed limbs. Undercrawlers have thick chitin plates along their backs and fronts with their sides exposed. Allowing it to move swiftly and shift through tight spaces. Sporting a large head plate, small eyes, large pincers, and a maw like a furnace. Undercrawlers burrow through solid stone with burning breath, feed on carbon, and are generally only hostile towards organic creatures when their territory or resources are threatened. Undercrawlers are around twenty feet long and three feet wide.

The Skull Moth are the size of a human hand, they have gold to bronze colored chitin with a skull like face and elegant wings. These insects feed off rotting flesh and magical disease. While rare they are vital in clearing magical induced necrosis which kills other medical treatments like maggots. Their wings produce a small antiviral dust which alchemists use to sterilize their facilities and is one of the few substances that can repel magical plagues.

The Gurtak are quadraped creatures, with long spiked legs, black leathery skin, and a chitinous shell over their ‘head’. They resemble some kind of mixture of cephalopod and insect. They latch onto the skulls of mammals and feed off brain matter. They lay their eggs in the remaining skull and their parasitic young animate the body and feed off the flesh until they mature. Direct sunlight is harmful to Gurtak.

Deep Crawlers are strange insects with six limbs, four long legs with serrated blades on the forelegs. Smaller legs are used for shifting dirt, feeding, and grasping. They have small bodies with scalloped chitin that hides their vital organs. Most of the Deep Crawler’s mass is in its four main legs.

The Husk Beetle are large monstrous beetles that trudge about deserts. Known as husks as their chitinous bodies have translucent underbodies with heavily armored stripes, their bright glowing organs give them a skeletal look. Husk Beetles can spray a boiling volatile fluid from their rear stingers. Husk Beetles survive off sunlight their massive shells converting solar energy into a biological energy. They’re the main food source of the might Desert Stag Beetle.

The Desert Stag Beetle is the largest insect adjacent creature on Ithia, these hulking beetles are beautiful and held sacred by the Kaiden people. Fine polished black shells they grow gold on their bodies their chitin slowly transmuting from chitin to gold over the course of their lives. They feed off ambient magical energy and water, create tunnels, shift through earth, prey on Husk Beetles, and are often the jewel of the great and powerful Kaiden’s menagerie. Their shells are so thick little more than siege weapons and powerful magic can hope to harm or kill these great beetles. The oldest, fully encased in golden shells are slow but can weaponize solar radiation directing lances of searing sunlight to protect themselves.

The Mottie Hounds are medium dog sized creatures with thick fluff, antenna, and large eyes. Mottie Hounds have wings and slim limbs believed to be a chimera mix of hound and moth. It is unsure why they were created but they are they are generally kept as companions of the Mothmau but other species have taken them on as pets.

The Great Winged Centipede is a large centipede with long colorful ‘whiskers’ a hundred small legs, scalloped plates of chitin, and soft fleshed plumage like butterfly wings fanning out from their heads. They have a fan they can flare on their backs as well used to regulate their body heat. Their tails are tipped with a pincer.
