An Advanced Creature Profile by Vincent Groth.
The middle tier mindless undead require more work and knowledge to create. They include the Drauger, Stitch-Work Corpses, and Grous. The Creation of mindless Undead is not an inherent sin as it does not bind the soul to the mortal coil. Consecrated ground repels Stich Work Corpses as well as the Grous.
-The Drauger is mindless undead made by powerful magic and bound by oaths taken in life. Ceremonially mummified while alive by poisonous tea of a highly magical brewing. It expels liquid from their bodies. They tend to turn a blueish color, what hair doesn’t fall out turns snow white.
-Stitch-Work Corpses comes in two variants including ones made of bones with metal wires and reinforcements bolted onto them or the flesh kind where they’re abominations of stitched together corpses. These amalgamations of corpses or skeletons often have weapons bound to them along with armored plates. They require a lot of metal and stich work. The thread and metal wires used must be dipped in blood enchanted in a ritual. A more complex rituals are used to animate them but can be used on multiple Corpses at once. They are easily identified by cloth seals attached to their joints by wire.
-Grous are large hulking giants whose creation starts while alive. Bound and forcefully augmented by magic over a long period of time. Necrotic energy, curses, and pain fuel the Grous. They are often bound heavily in armor as they are one of the harder Mindless Undead to create.
These mindless dead have more abilities than lesser Mindless dead.
-Drauger are swift, agile, and incredibly strong. Drauger are resistant to mundane weapons. They are empowered when on sanctified ground.
-Stich-Work Corpses can have many extra limbs each equipped with weapons and armor. They can be customized to fit various roles. The Flesh Stich-Work Corpses are resistant to physical damage and seem to slowly recover from their wounds. The Skeletal Stich-Work Corpses are more resistant to magic and can be infused with the power of the Fury planes.
-The Grous are incredibly strong, hulking, highly resistant nightmares who follow their master’s orders until destroyed or given a new one.
These undead have more varied roles.
-Drauger serve exclusively as guardians and caretakers of tombs and monuments an eternal honor guard. They can perform basic duties of tomb maintenace and retain the full reflexes of their living skills of war.
-Stichwork Corpses are used as bodyguards, heavy laborers, and one body phalanxes.
-Grous are used as mobile bulwarks and walking siege weapons.
Brute force will not work well against any of these undead, fire works well against the Drauger but little else does. Stitchwork Corpses are difficult to deal with, and the fleshy ones can be counter acted by magic while the skeletal ones are most easily countered by the destruction of their seals which are what grants their joints their mobility. Grous are terrifying nightmares and only a great deal of magic or actual siege weapons can hope to bring them down.
