Writing Worlds with Words

Gods of Ithia Expanded: Septriss Lord of Moons.

Septriss. God of Magic, Time, Knowledge, and the Moons Maroon, Saffron, and Azure.

Known across the plane as Septriss, Halkot, The Lord of Moons, The Crescent King, The Lord of the Font, The Time Keeper, The Whispered One, The Night Light, The God of Magic, The Skin Scribe, and the Breaker of Veils.

Siger’Alst is the Leader of the Gods of Magic.

Holy Books: The Buch der Kronen, The Book of Crowns, The Tosk og Hal, Gambri nuk Kunn, The Immortal Scriptures, The Book of First Flame, and The Book of Scales.

One of the most powerful of the Creator deities Septriss is the font from which all mortals and non-Creator gods draw their magic from Septriss. The Gods channel their mortal-gifted divine power through Septriss. He ordered the creation of the Halls of Magi, the Hall of Heroes, The Ashike Archives, The Grand Library of Kaidia, The Tower of Knowledge, The Speaker Stone, The Towers of Words, The Grand Library of Axandria, The Arcane Forge of Talis’Vrok, The Grand College of Septriss, and The Witherward Archives.

His symbol is the Trinity of Knowledge – An Opened Book for all that is known, A closed scroll for all our ignorance in its crease, and a Quill resting across it for all that can yet be changed.

When active on Ithia, which is technically whenever magic is being used his influence is marked by the two remaining Moons Maroon and Saffron which give off their namesake in light. Azure’s fall left a large black scar in the sky as if a gem was pried from a socket. This seems to still show some degree of influence.

Septriss’ Divine ream is a great spiraling library that rises up in a spiraling cone shape. Endless shelves of books, scrolls, stone slabs, arcane artifacts his followers have gifted him, strange unspeakable instruments, various clocks, hourglasses, and sundials. The three moons in a triangle, the open book, scroll, and quill all feature heavily in sigils and decorations.

Septriss maintains one major divine artifact which is the Staff of Three Moons, a gnarled wooden stave that twists into three forking branches that twist around three glowing orbs resembling the Moons. This stave holds unimaginable arcane power and is one of the few means of manipulating the flow of time in Ithia which Septriss protects fanatically.

Septriss does not generally conform to the dreams and thoughts of mortals below. His normal visage is of a tall, dark-skin man. Tall, muscular, with skin as dark as chocolate. A spiral of violet cloth wraps around him, trimmed in mithvalt, gold, and silver. The most potent of arcane Words of Power have been inscribed in his flesh in gold. Those who can pierce the Veil between the divine and mortal spy these words and remain sane can ascend towards divinity or lichdom.

Greenskins portray him as the great Halkot, an Ogre who wears night as his skin, bears the secrets of the world, and covered in gold and gemstone studs. His massive hands hold the last two moons of Ithia ensuring they will never be used against the Greenskins again. Though he does not act out Halkot out.

Septriss is a brilliant, stoic, and reclusive God who dwells in his divine realm acquiring research notes from his followers as he slowly records all the possible knowledge. He is often active on the world as his power fuels all the arcane magic and through him to his divine gods divine magic. He often leaves mortal affairs in his Avatar Witherward’s hand.

Septriss is worshipped by anyone who uses magic from great colleges of learning to small personal shrines. Almost all mages worship Septriss in same way. Worshippers gather at different times usually set by whatever arcane faction, master, or personal whims befall the worshipper. His structures are varied based on culture and order. Septriss’ Avatar is Witherward but his saints include Markov Hybori, The Enchantress, Herald Lionguard, Vincent Groth, Seviskal, Harrow Yarrow, Silt the Inked, Mary Leer, Tir Ore, Hagane Kotoba, Mortum Selkie, and Casimiro Cigno.
