The Cockatrice are strange mythic creatures known for causing petrification. Generally sporting a mixture of features of a rooster or chicken and a lizard of some kind. Cockatrice are rare and highly dangerous creatures. They prefer hot and dry climates. 

The Bull Cockatrice are large hulking creatures with taloned feet, large, feathered bodies, leathery wings, a long reptilian tail ending in venomous spines, a very defined rooster head with glowing eyes crowns its hulking body. The Bull Cockatrice’s screech can paralyze mammals, and the venom of their tail can cause petrification in organic creatures.  Bull Cockatrices are all males and are highly territorial. New male cockatrices are driven away from flocks the moment they can survive on their own. 

The Hen Cockatrice are mastiff sized creatures with feathered bodies, short leathery wings with sharp claws they use to thrust at prey, sharp talons, a long reptilian tail, and colorful plumage along its back and around its tail. Hen Cockatrices can cause extreme pain with their screeches; their screeching causes a slow petrification over time. Victims will find their joints stiffening and skin calcifying over weeks. 

The Eastern Cockatrice are small peacock sized and shaped creatures with colorful gemstone scales along their bodies, leathery wings, taloned feet, and small beaks. Their only feathers resemble eyelashes. The least dangerous cockatrice the Eastern Cockatrice is kept by alchemists for their paralytic saliva, nobles keep them as pretty pets. 

The Northen Hooked Cockatrice are larger than Hen Cockatrices but still much smaller than Bulls, These Cockatrices are slightly more suited to colder climates with thick leathery hide, short feathery wings, feathered tail feathers, sharp talons, and a large, serrated beak. They have a large red mass that covers the top of their head and fans out around them making them appear larger. They have a powerful screech they use for echolocation, a strong sense of smell, and have small venom glands that cause petrification of blood in those they bite.  

The Southern Drake Cockatrice is the largest breed of Cockatrice with long curving horns, feathered wings which allow it to fly for very short distances, a massive amount of tail feathering over a large spined tail. The Southern Drake Cockatrice’s gaze can cause temporary blindness, their screeches rupture ears, and their tails have a numbing venom in their spines. The Souther Drake Cockatrice can strip away most of the senses of their prey and leave them hopefully helpless. 

The Rostern are strange artificial creatures made from the egg of a Cockatrice by a one powerful Sorcerer. These bipedal reptiles with the head of a chicken and short feathered wings have formed small settlements and serve powerful mages as deadly servants. Rostern are strong for their size, unleash painfully loud screeches, and gazes can cause burning sensations in the eyes.
