The Hydra is a species of large serpentine reptiles often able to regrow heads, possessing deadly venom, and highly territorial. Hydras are highly diverse and avoid populated areas, or areas with other large predators unless forced to move. Hydras are kin to dragons and believe to a creation of one of the first Green Dragons to create artificial children.
The Great Peaked Hydra is a massive specimen covered in heavy armored scales like kite shields along its neck and back. The Great Peaked Hydra has four legs, bone plates on their skulls and large teeth like kukris. One of the few non-venomous Hydra they are primarily persistence hunters and scavengers chasing off lesser predators from kills. Unlike many Hydra the Great Peaked Hydra does not regrow its heads if lost but does grow up to ten heads over the course of its life-span.
The Vrokian Hydra is a large hydra species consisting of a long serpent body, bladed forearms, and three heads. Having a hazy aura to it and often bleeding a misty shadow the Vrokian Hydra, native the Talis Vrok, can be difficult to hit at range as it’s form appears more insubstantial, hazy, and distorted the further away its viewed. Vrokian Hydra are persistence hunters slowly caroling prey into dead ends before exerting the energy for a kill. Their heads regenerate, but they do not grow more when decapitated. Highly Venomous.
The Western Hydra is a large hydra species with a large four-legged body, a short tail, and large eyeless heads. Heavily armored on the heads with thick nearly impenetrable skullplates. More durable than the Great Peaked Hydra the Western Hydra is far less agile, able to regrow multiple heads from a single decapitation, and feed off the large prey creatures of the Lands of Maria. One of the few non-venomous Hydra.
The Swampfin Hydra is a large three-headed serpentine creature sporting a large cooling fin along its necks. The Swampfin Hydra has a long serpentine body meant for both swimming and coiling across land. The only Hydra that retains an acidic breath weapon they are believed to be the first species of Hydra. Unable to regrow heads the Swampfin Hydra snakes through deep murky waters acting as an ambush predator. Highly corrosive.
The Eastern Mask Hydra is a medium sized serpentine creature with pale skin, spikey scales along its upper back, where the necks diverge, and smooth eel-like skin along the rest of his tail. Sporting large pale heads in a mimicry of screaming human faces the Eastern Mask Hydra is more terror inducing than the threat other Hydras pose. Venomous, and regrowing two heads for everyone removed the Eastern Masked Hydra can be a monstrous foe though they only turn aggressive towards creatures as big as most humanoids when defending territory or desperate for food.
The Eastern Fell Hydra is a medium sized four-legged reptile with rough scaled skin. Fast, deadly, and sporting a unmatched sense of smell and taste the Eastern Fell Hydra makes up for its lack of eyes as a hunter of deep dark places and blinding day. Eastern Fell Hydras are persistence hunters and often try to drive prey towards the blinding light or drowning dark to rob them of their vision. They do not regrow their heads but can spot poison and are highly venomous.
The Scylla are large, terrifying, sea hydra who plague the sea with ferocious hunger. A close relative to the Great Peaked Hydra the Scylla can tear apart most ships, though as such rarely provides any return on energy, they rarely do attack ships and are merely apex predators of the seas. They are known to attack smaller boats mistaking them for large sea creatures.
The Ridgeback Hydra is a smaller subterranean reptile with four legs, a long tail, and two large boney ridges on its back. It has scales covering its body with its tail covered in long thin spines along the top ridge. Sporting two heads the Ridgeback Hydra can’t regrow its heads, only attack humanoids when threatened, and have even been known to be taken as pets. Ridgeback Hydra primarily hunt insects with small plumage on their heads with a bioluminescent to them to lure in smaller prey. Venom seems to only affect insects.
The Lesser Hydra is a small serpent, newest Lesser Hydra can pass as a large viper, though when beheaded they grow two heads in the place of the first. The Lesser Hydra is the only aggressive member of the species, will attack humanoids if threatened, and sometimes even unprovoked. Lesser Hydra can be identified by their emerald-green scales, soft white bellies, and golden diamond patterns along their back.
