A primer on general arcana of Ithia by Scribe Yarrow. Magic in Ithia is generally sourced from Septriss directly or through another god or source. There are two base forms of Arcanist Inward and Outward casters. Most spellcasters are Directing energy outside of themselves. Inward Spellcasters bring energy into themselves.
Almost all magic requires payment, which is called The Drain. The Drain always causes caloric burn but can also be paid for in Intelligence, Strength, Dexterity, Health, Spirit, Creativity, Lifeforce, Will-Power, Consciousness, Blood, Memory, Presence, Self, Solidity, Calm, Taste, Lust, Hunger, Sanity, Pain, Tattoo, Venom, Deed, and many others.
Energy is summoned from the Furi Planes, which consist of Fire, Ice, Earth, Wind, Electricity, Acid, Force, Magic, Order, Chaos, Life, and Death. Furries are also drawn from here as dangerous summons.
Magic is wild and dangerous. Those who find a new way to channel and use magic are generally immensely powerful. As a path is traveled more and its rules and rituals are hammered into strong supports, learning becomes more manageable but weaker in exchange.
Divine casters draw upon preset rituals and magical traits endorsed and granted by their deity.
Spellcasters and Certain species can perceive the color of magic Falmill named after Septriss’ beloved. In those who cannot see Falmill, it appears as a brightening of colors, and as arcane power burns through the eyes, spell casters tend to have bright or outright glowing eyes to the nonmagical.
