A primer on the general weaknesses of the fae. The means to control, combat, and repel the fae. by Scribe Yarrow of the Hall of Heroes.
Iron - Iron the bones of the mortal world, the bane of the fairy. Iron burns to the touch like a searing brand; it kills the magic and maims the soul, leaving scars throughout a fairy's recreation. It can disrupt fae magic, destroy their glamours, and protect against their influences. Iron alloys such as steel are less effective.
Names - Words are power, and names are important. A fairy's name is useless in the hands of most, but for the arcane adept, it can be used to summon the fairy. Those who are powerful can bind lesser fae to their commands, but the Huntmasters, Lords, Ladies, Princesses, Princes, and Queens are beyond binding.
Music - Music is one with the Dance; it moves the body, the soul, and the world. Powerful and beautiful music can entice fae into falling to the wild, mad whims of the Dance. Dances and music can disrupt a fairy's thoughts and distract and bind fairies into following suit. Other high degrees of art can also influence the fae differently, but music is the most immediate.
Salt - Salt of the Sea and Earth can be used to ward off the fae. Its empowerment as a symbol of the Goddess Mealis makes it a potent ward against beings outside the mortal plane.
Smoke and Ash - Smoke from Ash, Rowan, and Hawthorne can cause severe headaches, fatigue, nausea, and disrupt magic in fairies. The Ash of these trees can be used to ward against the fae.
Rose and Wood - The perfume of roses and flowers can distract the fae, while wooden clubs of blackthorn bypass the natural armor of most fae.
Promises - Promises made to and by the Fae are bound on the soul and essence. Breaking a binding promise can cause severe repercussions on both sides.
Artifice - Fae are weakest in areas with refined materials and are minor when outside the fae planes. The less nature and the more manufactured material there are in an area, the weaker a fairy will feel.
